A Comprehensive Study on Patient Safety and the Role of Evidence-Based Nursing Practices in Improving Healthcare Quality

Patient safety is being recognized as a global concern in healthcare environments, with an increasing number of events threatening patient safety being reported. This study aims to assess the significance of evidence-based nursing in enhancing patient safety and quality of care. Evidence-based nursing integrates the best available research evidence into clinical expertise, enabling health professionals to apply scientifically valid practices. This allows evidence-based nursing (EBN) to be an evidence-based 'way of being'. The paper will discuss the application of evidence-based interventions to patient outcomes and how the use of EBN can reduce medication errors, provide time for recovery, and enhance patient satisfaction with their overall experience. The discussion will examine safety initiatives in healthcare environments and provide examples of how EBN represents a means to drive transformation and foster a culture of safety. Through case studies and real-life applications, research demonstrates that evidence-based nursing can decrease the risks associated with research and enhance clinical outcomes. Understanding the nursing profession as a vehicle for improvement, this study also responds to the factors that impede and challenge EBN practices. Resistance to change, lack of resources, and inadequate training are among the challenges that may hinder the implementation of EBN into routine practice. This paper proposes approaches that healthcare organizations can use to alleviate these barriers to EBN at the policy and agenda structure levels within healthcare delivery systems, continuing education, and patient-centered care. Ultimately, the study reinforces the premise that evidence-based nursing establishes patient protection, providing advocacy for integrating EBN into health (i.e., care distribution) practices to improve our patients' outcomes.
